We are fortunate to live in Madison County, aren't we? We lead the state in so many important areas . . . highest property values, lowest crime rate, best public and private schools, just to name a few. We need a county government that measures up to these high standards. We need public servants who put the people first. We need leadership worthy of the place we all call home. That's why I'm running for Chancery Clerk, and that's why I am asking for your vote in the Republican primary on August 5th.
The job of Chancery Clerk is vitally important to a stable system of county government and to a stable economy. Known as the "workhorse" of the county, the Chancery Clerk wears many hats. He is the recorder and preserver of land records, the clerk to the Chancery Court, the clerk to the Board of Supervisors, and he serves, by law, as county treasurer and county auditor. These descriptors, though, do not even begin to account for the enormity of the job. Whether it is the timely filing of construction liens, the proper recording and indexing of deeds of trust, or the proper filing of court and board of supervisor minutes, the job demands a full time, hands on approach. And that's precisely what I will bring to the office.
As the only lawyer in the race, I understand not only what the duties of the office entail, but I know why those duties are important, why they must be carried out to the letter of the law and in a proper and timely fashion, and I know what the consequences are to the public for the failure to do so. I also understand why it is important for our elected officials to work together.
I pledge to have an open door, to be available and cheerfully responsive to the needs of the public. I pledge to work together with the other elected officials in the county to insure the orderly and methodical administration of government -- the office of Chancery Clerk in particular. I pledge to build bridges and create partnerships so that our county's government will measure up to our people. Simply put, I pledge to bring a new spirit to county government . . . a spirit that promotes unity and respect and puts the people ahead of everything else. If you share that belief - if you believe that we need to work together and be more respectful and responsive in county government, then I hope you will give me the chance to be your Chancery Clerk.
